Kviratskhoveli is the Georgian name of the feast of the Resurrection, and churches with such a dedication are not rare in Kakheti. This one, in Ziari, is mentioned both as a church and as a chapel: on the ground the difference between a small village church and a chapel is often a matter of convention, and both versions have their place.
It stands in the upper part of Ziari, a village north of Gurjaani, on the edge of the Alazani valley. Ziari is small, yet it holds several sanctuaries: besides this one there is the Lomisi church of Saint George and two further church sites. Gurjaani is about five kilometres away.
There are no regular services at the church, so you can look in at any time, and if it is locked the view from outside loses little. The village is compact and all its sanctuaries can be walked in a single stroll. The streets in the upper part climb, but not for long.
