The church of the Virgin stands in the eastern part of Kardenakhi, another church building of the village.
The other two are a chapel whose dedication has not survived and the basilica of Saint Sabbas, known as Sabatsminda, in the western part: the latter draws the most attention. Kardenakhi is one of the large wine-making villages of north-eastern Kakheti, set among the vineyards of the Alazani valley, so a trip here combines well with a tasting.
A village church may keep no fixed schedule; service times are learned on site. All three sites fit within a couple of kilometres. Dress with shoulders and knees covered, a headscarf for women.
