The church in Anaga is referred to under two dedications: it is called both a church of the Virgin and one of the Transfiguration. These are different feasts and no choice can be made between them, so both names remain in use.
The Transfiguration is called peristsvaleba in Georgian, literally a change of appearance, and this dedication recurs in Kakheti: a chapel of the same name stands, for instance, in Bodbiskhevi. Anaga lies south of Sighnaghi, the walled hilltop town overlooking the Alazani valley; the church stands on Sandro Akhmeteli street.
A village church may keep no fixed schedule; service times are learned on site. Dress with shoulders and knees covered, a headscarf for women, and speak quietly on the grounds.
