The name translates literally: the church of the Womens fortress. It refers to a church within the fortress complex of Manavi, and this is a case where the religious site is inseparable from the defensive one: they cannot be seen apart, and there is no need to.
The fortress stands on the slope of the Gombori range, above the village, and from its walls the plain opens up. Manavi lies north-east of Sagarejo, by the road running over the Gombori pass to Telavi. The second sanctuary of the village, a Saint Nicholas church, stands lower down the slope, in the built-up part.
There are no regular services at the church and the fortress grounds are open. The climb from the village takes about half an hour along a path that is stony in places: closed shoes with firm soles are needed. Treat the old masonry gently and do not climb the walls.
