The name of the church follows a familiar Kakhetian pattern: onanaanti sakdari means the church of the Onanaani family. Such family churches are common in the villages of the region, and their names often give no dedication at all, as here.
Chalaubani lies on the plain between Gurjaani and Sighnaghi, among vineyards, and there are no other church sites in the village itself. The nearest neighbouring sanctuary, the unnamed Archangel church by the road, stands less than two kilometres away, along the road towards Kolagi.
No regular services are held at the church and it can be approached at any time. The village is flat, the roads are easy, and the trip needs no special preparation. If you are driving the Kakheti highway towards Sighnaghi, the detour takes a quarter of an hour including the visit.
