A village church of the Most Holy Mother of God, known as the Atskuri one. Its name sounds like that of one of the most venerated Georgian holy objects: the Atskuri icon of the Mother of God, whose veneration is tied to Atskuri in Samtskhe Javakheti and to the preaching of the Apostle Andrew. Whether the church is named after that icon or simply after its own village cannot be said, and we leave the question open.
The village here is a different one, Kakhetian Atsquri west of Telavi, sharing only a name with the Samtskhe place. This is another church of the village: an Annunciation church stands nearby, along with one referred to now as Saint Mary and now as Saint Marine. The century of building is not established.
The church is in use and stands in the central part of the village. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. The three churches of Atsquri can be seen in one visit.
