The Martyr church stands in the Kakhetian Atskuri, a couple of hundred metres from the church of the White George. Two churches at such a distance mean the village had more than one parish centre.
The Atskuri of this region should not be confused with the village of the same name in Samtskhe-Javakheti: the Kakhetian Atskuri belongs to Telavi Municipality and lies next to Ikalto. Ikalto holds an ancient monastery with an academy where, by tradition, Shota Rustaveli studied. Vineyards of the Alazani valley and wooded foothills lie around.
Modest clothing is expected, with shoulders and knees covered. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
