A village church of the Annunciation. In Georgian the feast is called khareba, literally the good news, and it falls in early April. In rural Georgia that is the height of the spring work, so churches with this dedication often sit at the centre of a village farming calendar.
The church is known by Zemo Khodasheni yet stands on the eastern edge of the village cluster around Atsquri, west of Telavi. Another church of the same cluster, known under two dedications at once, lies about a kilometre away, and together they appear to serve one area. The age of the buildings is not established.
The parish is rural and services follow the church year. Dress modestly, women wear a headscarf. The churches of the cluster are close together and can be walked in one visit.
