The sakdari is dedicated to St. Nino, the enlightener of Georgia. Her memory is especially alive here: it was from Kakheti, from Bodbe, that her veneration began, and churches in her name are frequent in this part of the country.
In Georgia a sakdari means a small church or a place of prayer. This one stands in Artana, closing the chain of village shrines: the Artana Mother of God about three hundred metres away, the doorless church of St. George a kilometre, the church of the Virgin a little further, the cemetery church two kilometres off.
The place is a quiet one and is not opened specially for arrivals, which is normal for a village sakdari. The usual rules: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, silence. The road here is easy, and Napareuli is about three kilometres away.
