A church of the Virgin stands in the village of Pshaveli. The place also carries a second name, Ipnian, which sounds beside the dedication and is left unexplained; in Kakheti such second names usually belong to a tract or to the old name of a quarter.
Pshaveli lies at the foot of the road that leaves the Alazani valley for the mountains of Pshav-Khevsureti. Shrines are many around: the church of St. Eustathius about a kilometre away, the churches of St. Nicholas and St. John the Theologian at Lalisquri a little further, the Tskarostavi church of St. George two kilometres off. The Crow sakdari, known across the district, stands here as well.
The village is alive and sits on a through road, so it is easy to reach at any season. The church is in use: modest dress, a headscarf for women, quiet inside, and photography better agreed upon.
