The church of Saint George stands north of Zeda Simoneti in Terjola Municipality. Today it is a three nave building faced with well polished stone and divided inside into naves by columns.

The church was first designed as a hall basilica, and the south and north naves were added later: the joint is clearly visible on the east facade. Carved details in the form of blind arches can be read on the south facade, while stone Nuskhuri inscriptions survive on the east, north and west walls, published in the corpus of lapidary inscriptions and dated to the 11th century.

A rebuilding in the 19th century changed the look of the church: the windows and doors were widened, the north and west facades were laid anew, and the southern carving lost its original coherence in the process. The church is active and is listed as a cultural heritage monument.

💡 Tip

  • Nuskhuri inscriptions of the 11th century on three facades
  • A hall basilica to which two naves were added later
  • The joint of the addition is clearly visible on the east facade
