Adjara in Photos
Adjara fits both a subtropical coast and real mountains into a small area. Along the sea lie Kobuleti, Chakvi and Tsikhisdziri with the Byzantine fortress of Petra, and closer to the Turkish border the clear water of Kvariati and Sarpi. From Batumi the Adjaristsqali gorge leads inland: Keda with its vineyards and waterfalls, Shuakhevi with covered wooden bridges, Khulo with a cable car across the gorge. Mountain villages keep old wooden mosques and medieval arched bridges, while emerald rivers run through the Mtirala rainforest and the Machakhela gorge. Batumi has its own gallery; here the photos are grouped by district and by theme.
