Georgian Parliament Adopts Amendments on National Bank Board Requirements by 80 Votes
A package of amendments on the composition of the National Bank of Georgia board was adopted in the third reading by 80 votes, with no votes against, BM.GE reported on October 15. Adoption does not mean the changes have entered into force. The new qualification requirements do not apply to current members until their terms expire.
Candidates for the board must have at least 10 years of experience in economics, finance, IT or a related field; no more than two members may come from other areas. A succession mechanism was also introduced: if the board does not transfer duties to another vice president within a month, they pass automatically to the vice president who joined the board earlier. The changes were expedited ahead of an IMF mission scheduled for November 2026.
