Khoni: The City at the Crossroads of Six Roads in Georgia

Khoni is a small town located in western Georgia, in Imereti. Although it received city status in 1921, it is sometimes referred to as a village.

The city is home to one of the most ancient Georgian churches, and perhaps the most forgotten of all—the Church of St. George. According to chronicles, it was built by the Abkhazian king Theodosius II in the 9th century. The reason for the ancient church's oblivion is unknown. No informative references to it could be found either online or in printed literature.

The Okatse Canyon is located near Khoni. This relatively new attraction has already become a favorite among tourists and travelers.

It's important to note that strict rules must be observed when visiting the canyon. Children under 10 and those under 120 cm tall are not allowed. Teenagers under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Pets are prohibited. Bad weather—fog, rain, and snow—can also hinder tourists visiting the Okatse Canyon.

According to reviews from those who have been on a tour of the canyon, persuading a security guard to break the rules is impossible. If in doubt, he will personally measure the child's height.

Near the village of Kinchkha are waterfalls and lakes. The main waterfall is considered the highest in Georgia. On the shore of Tskhenistskhale, 5 km from Khoni, is the village of Matkhoji. It is home to the Church of the Archangel Gabriel.
