How we went to Chakvi for meat! What to see in Georgia?

In Georgia, you can buy meat not only in stores but also from private farmers, which, of course, boasts superior taste and quality. However, you can almost always learn something interesting by word of mouth. So, if you ask the locals where and when to buy fresh meat, someone will probably have some advice. And you can choose your favorite cut of freshly butchered pork yourself. Home-bought pork, for example, will cost you around 12 lari per kilogram.

Since you'll have to travel to a village to buy homemade meat, you can take the opportunity to stroll around the area and see the nearby sights.

For example, such private farmsteads can be found in Chakvi. The hospitable hosts won't just sell you the freshest meat, but will also invite you into their home to treat you to something delicious and show you how they live.

After a pleasant chat and a good purchase, you can travel a bit.

Chakvi is a resort village on Georgia's Black Sea coast. Google Maps shows that Chakvi is 17 kilometers from Batumi, a drive time of about half an hour.

You can visit the beach here. To get there, you need to cross the railroad tracks. Along the way, you might see a beautiful old mansion. Rumor has it that this house belonged to Nicholas Romanov's brother. Once you reach the narrow embankment, you'll see fishing boats on the horizon. And you can go down the stairs to the water and the beach, covered with pebbles and coarse sand.

Returning to the railroad tracks and walking along the tracks, you'll see an interesting abandoned house. Rumor has it that a Chinese tea master once lived here. If you venture inside, you'll see that even the patterns on the floor are partially preserved, and in one of the rooms, you can see evidence of a stove. However, the house is quite dilapidated, the ceilings are almost collapsing, making it dangerous and not very pleasant to enter. It's not properly maintained, so the interior is very dirty. Near this house, there's a pretty decent bench where you can sit and relax, admiring the beautiful view of the sea.

In the center of the village of Chakvi, there's a pharmacy and small shops where you can buy fruit, vegetables, water, shawarma, pies, and fast food. There are also public transportation stops here, with connections to Batumi, and plenty of taxis. The very beautiful and interesting Mtirala Park is also nearby.

Further on, you can drive to the ruins of Petra Fortress. It sits on a hill above the village of Tsikhisdziri, near the city of Kobuleti. Here, you can stroll among the preserved remains of the fortress walls and rows of large concrete pillars of the former lemonarium, built in several tiers and now overgrown with ivy and wild vegetation. This symbiosis of greenery and stone, ancient and modern, is a truly mesmerizing sight. At the very top, the observation deck offers a magnificent view of the endless expanse of the sea. Driving further towards Kobuleti, you'll reach the rural village of Bobokvati. There are excellent, quiet places to relax here. The campsite accommodates both motorhomes and trailers, as well as campers in cars or with tents.
