The church at Tkotsa is known under two versions of its name: it is called simply the village church, but it is also referred to as the church of St. George. Such divergence is ordinary for the village churches of Shida Kartli, and we give both versions.
The official dedication and the everyday name often part ways here, and what sticks in the end is the one the neighbours use. The village lies in the hills north-east of Kareli, with the church in its upper part. Tkotsa fits conveniently between Satsikhuri and Nabakhtevi if you are planning a day route through the churches of the municipality.
No dating has become attached to the building. The climb to the church starts from the lower village street, and closed shoes are the better choice. Dress soberly and treat the walls with care.
