The church is known by a double name: Samkviralo and the dedication to St. George. It stands at the edge of Patara Plevi village, among the hills of Kareli Municipality.
Patara Plevi translates literally as Little Plevi: the prefix patara, small, in Georgian toponymy almost always implies a larger namesake somewhere nearby. Around it unfolds one of the densest church landscapes of Shida Kartli: the villages of the Kareli district each hold three to five churches, and Patara Plevi is built into that network.
No dating has become attached to the building, so it has to be judged by the masonry. The last stretch of road is unpaved and turns to mud after rain. Dress soberly and treat the walls with care.
