A church of Saint Marine in Karbi. Marine, also known as Margaret of Antioch, is honoured as a protector in hard circumstances, and her name appears in Georgian villages markedly more often than in towns.
Karbi lies in Shida Kartli, north of Gori, not far from the dividing line. The nearest neighbours in the area are the two churches of Marana about six kilometres away, and further the church of the Mother of God in Pkhvenisi.
The area is close to the line, and the state of the access roads and the order of travel are best found out in advance. In the church itself the usual rules apply: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, and a headscarf for women.
