The church is dedicated to the Nativity of the Most Holy Virgin: the dedication is given in full, with a note that Saint Mary is meant. Such completeness is rare for village churches in this region.
Karbi lies not in Kvemo Kartli but in Shida Kartli: this is a Gori district village in the foothills north-west of Gori, on the plain by the Liakhvi river. The same village holds a second sanctuary, a Trinity church, about a kilometre away.
There is no fixed schedule of services, but the site can be approached at any time. The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet. The neighbourhood here is a border one and road conditions change by season, so check on access before a trip and plan the route from Gori.
