Dedaghvtisa, literally Mother of God, is another Georgian term for Marian churches, alongside the more familiar Ghvtismshobeli. This church completes the central trio of Nabakhtevi.
It stands a couple of hundred metres from the Marian basilica and right beside the church of John the Baptist. A curious detail: the village has two Marian churches, this one and the basilica. Duplication of dedications within one village is not rare in Shida Kartli, and they should not be confused, each having its own appearance and place in the settlement.
All three buildings of the core stand deep inside the village fabric, minutes apart on foot. Dress soberly, women bring a headscarf. Two more village churches lie on the eastern and southern edges.
