The church of St. George stands in Ghvarebi village in the west of Shida Kartli. The parish here is a village one, and the church is known by the name of the village.
Ghvarebi lies west of Gori, in the hills above the Kura valley. A kilometre and a half away, near Zemo Ksovrisi, lies the prayer stone of the prophet Elijah, with the ruins of two old churches of the same village a little further.
Regular services may not be held, and the church can be approached at any time. Modest clothing is appropriate, and candles and offerings are left in their places.
