The church of St. George in Tatanisi is a small village church on the hills north of Akhaltsikhe, between Sviri and Karatubani, away from the main roads of the area. It stands among the village yards and lives by the cares of the area: feast-day services and an open door for the neighbours. The church is small but kept, and the yard is always tidy.
Tatanisi fits neatly into the hilly circle of the Akhaltsikhe villages: Sviri with its church sites on one side, Karatubani with two churches on the other, and the St. George church as the calm middle of this route: from here both neighbours are within easy reach.
One enters freely, with ordinary rural courtesy: modest dress, a quiet voice, respect for the yards. On Giorgoba the whole village gathers by the church.
