The Virgin Mary naeklesiari marks the place where a church stood, about a kilometre from the church of Saint Nino. The building has not survived; a foundation and traces of masonry remain among the trees.
The three church sites of Chobiskhevi lie along about two kilometres of slope. Such an arrangement is usual for gorge villages: the households stretch in a chain and each group had its own place of prayer. The forest here is dense and the approach is hard to find without coordinates.
Keep a restrained manner: for nearby villages this is a place of memory. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
Tips
- Come in the morning while the light is soft.
- Check the forecast, as rain makes the approach slippery.
- Wear shoes with a firm sole.
Getting there
- The last stretch runs along a dirt road that softens after rain.
- Plan the visit together with nearby stops, as there is no dedicated transport here.
