The church dedicated to Saint Nino stands in Chobiskhevi. It is the only surviving church building of the village: the other two sites in the area exist only as naeklesiari, places of former churches.
Chobiskhevi lies in Borjomi Municipality, in the Kura gorge south of Borjomi. The slopes here are covered with coniferous forest, which is what made the district a resort area. The road through the gorge links Borjomi with Akhaltsikhe and further with Vardzia.
A headscarf is useful for women, as it may be required at the entrance. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
Tips
- Allow no more than half an hour for the visit.
- Bring water, as there are no kiosks nearby.
- It is better to leave a dog outside.
Getting there
- Navigate by the coordinates, as there may be no signs on the approach.
- Ask locals for directions, since the short way is not always obvious.
