The Saint George salotsavi is marked in the wooded part of Borjomi Municipality. A salotsavi is a place of prayer without a church building: people come on their own dates and leave candles.
The ruins of the Saint George church of Khvetssakdari lie about a kilometre and a half away. Borjomi Municipality is almost entirely covered by coniferous forest, and a large part of it belongs to the national park. The approach to the site is unpaved and hard going in rain.
Keep a restrained manner: for nearby villages this is a living place of veneration. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
Tips
- Come in the morning while the light is soft.
- Check the forecast, as rain makes the approach slippery.
- Loud conversation is not welcome here.
Getting there
- The last stretch runs along a dirt road that softens after rain.
- Plan the visit together with nearby stops, as there is no dedicated transport here.
