The chapel in Skhvilisi is a small structure for prayer on the edge of a village street, south of Akhaltsikhe. The place has no name of its own, and that is an honest mark of the genre: village chapels were raised for everyday need, not for chronicles.
Skhvilisi meanwhile is a village with a rich religious geography: the Catholic basilica of the Virgin Mary stands here too, and higher up the slope the St. George church of Zemo Skhvilisi. The chapel is the smallest of the three churches, and it is a handy start for a short village route.
The chapel is seen freely, with ordinary rural courtesy: a quiet voice, respect for the neighbouring yards. One enters if the door is open and leaves everything as it was: candles, a small icon and quiet, nothing more is needed here.
