Besides the Catholic church of Surb Sarkis, Azavreti also has a Georgian Orthodox church. Two parishes of different traditions in one village are no rarity for Javakheti.
Azavreti lies on the plateau north of Akhalkalaki, among pastures and stony fields. Less than a kilometre separates the two churches, so seeing both is easy.
