The church ruins lie near Gokio, apart from the natadzrali of the same village. Two church sites in one area mean there was more than one church here.
Gokio belongs to Akhalkalaki Municipality on the Javakheti plateau. A Catholic church in Alastani stands about two and a half kilometres away. The plateau is open and almost treeless, and buildings are made of dark volcanic stone.
Keep to the paths and watch your step, since stones hide in the grass. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
