The Gokio natadzrali marks the site of a former church. The word natadzrali differs from naeklesiari in nuance: it comes from tadzari, cathedral, and points to a building larger than an ordinary village church.
Gokio lies in Akhalkalaki Municipality, and a Catholic church in Alastani stands about two and a half kilometres away. Catholic parishes appeared in Javakheti among the Armenian population and persist to this day. The plateau is open, and the roads between villages run straight with almost no trees along them.
Keep to the paths and watch your step, since stones hide in the grass. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
