The church is dedicated to the Virgin and stands at a cemetery. Its name leads to lower Lukhvano while the address ties it to the upper one: there are two Lukhvanos in Lechkhumi, lying along one slope, and the parish was shared between them.
The place lies three and a half kilometres from Tsageri, in the valley above the river. The Lasuriashi monastery stands about three kilometres away, the Dormition church in Tsageri itself four, the nameless church of Dekhviri four and a half.
Cemetery churches are not kept open every day, yet they can always be approached. At a cemetery restraint is expected: do not walk between the graves without need, do not photograph people, leave no litter. The road from Tsageri is short. On the days of remembrance after Easter the place is crowded; at other times it is quiet.
