The church of Zemo Nichbisi village is known by the name Umzeura. What the word means is not explained in the village, yet it is the one that has stayed with the church.
Zemo Nichbisi means Upper Nichbisi: lower down, closer to the Mtkvari, lies Kvemo Nichbisi with a church of its own, about two and a half kilometres from here. Another shrine of Zemo Nichbisi itself, the Tavkapitsa complex, stands about a kilometre and eight hundred and fifty metres away.
The church is rural and its gates are opened by arrangement. The rules are the usual ones: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet. The names Nichbisi and Saskhori are mixed up in this district and the churches are easily confused, so it is safer to steer by the coordinates.
