A church dedicated to St. John the Theologian stands in Kvemo Nichbisi. In the Georgian tradition the Theologian is more often remembered in monastic churches, and for a village parish such a dedication is less common.
Kvemo Nichbisi lies on the right bank of the Mtkvari, in the belt of villages running from Mtskheta towards Kaspi. The church has many neighbours: the village church stands about four hundred metres away, at Saskhori the church of St. George and the old church of Ukugma, and closer still the parish of the Virgin of New Nichbisi. A kilometre and a half to the north begins the locality of Khekordzi with churches of its own.
The parish is a village one, services are not held every day, and getting inside is easier while ordinary life is going on around. Dress modestly, keep quiet indoors and leave the furnishings untouched.
