  • Description

In the town of Nichbisi, in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, stands the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which has become a majestic symbol of faith and art. Its history goes back to 1817, when Armenian craftsmen erected this temple-like hall, decorated with an apse that seems to invite the view with its semicircular shape.

Once upon a time, the church welcomed its parishioners with two entrances: the northern one, decorated with an arch, and the western one, which is now lost. However, even with one entrance, it continues to impress with its architectural grace. The interior of the church is striking in its exquisite simplicity: plastered walls and stone floors create an atmosphere of reverence.

The center of attention is the altar with the refectory, surrounded by utility rooms, as if keeping their secrets in the silence of the walls. The hall is illuminated by natural light penetrating through windows decorated with arched recesses. From above, the vault of the hall is supported by three powerful arches, creating a feeling of weightlessness.

The outside of the church also does not leave anyone indifferent. Stonework of different sizes and shapes gives it a unique character, and the bell tower-gazebo located nearby invites you to touch the sounds of antiquity.

A visit to the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an opportunity to plunge into the history and culture of Georgia. Here, every stone, every detail tells its own fascinating story, and the majestic atmosphere allows you to feel the spirit of antiquity and wisdom of this land.
