A church dedicated to St. Tevdore stands in the village of Dzegvi. Tevdore, a warrior and martyr, has long been venerated in Georgia, and village churches in his name are found across Kartli.
Dzegvi stretches along the Mtkvari above Mtskheta, where the valley narrows before the gorge. For a single village the churches here are unusually many: the All Saints stands three hundred metres away, a little further the village church and the church of St. George, and closer to the water the church of the Virgin. Such density usually speaks of an old and populous settlement. Mtskheta is about eleven kilometres away, Kaspi seventeen.
The village is alive and the church in use, so enter it as you would any Georgian church: shoulders and knees covered, a headscarf for women, quiet inside. Photography is better agreed upon if someone is present.
