The Lomisa niche stands in Upureti village. A niche here is a type of shrine: a small place of prayer rather than a built church with a parish.
In these parts the name Lomisa is known above all from the shrine on the pass between the Aragvi and Ksani gorges, where pilgrims climb every summer: that one lies tens of kilometres from here. The neighbours are closer: the naeklesiari at the Akhaldaba cemetery a kilometre and four hundred metres away, the ruins of the Akhaldaba church a kilometre and seven hundred.
The site is open, there are no gates, and you can come at any hour. The candles, cloths and what others have left are better left untouched. The tracks between the Upureti shrines are country ones, and all four are more easily walked on foot.
