The chapel of the apostles Peter and Paul is left from the vanished village of Ukana Chitebi. Small buildings like this, called samlotsvelo, were raised not as parish churches but as places to come and pray alone or with the family.
The spot lies near Kariaki, north of Tsalka. Less than a kilometre away, closer to the village itself, lie the ruins of another small shrine known as Vardzia. The name matches the famous cave monastery in Samtskhe Javakheti, but these are different places, and that Vardzia is a hundred and fifty kilometres from here.
There are no regular services here and the place can be visited at any time. It is quiet and open, with no fence around it.
