A prayer place of Saint Sophia in Akhalsheni. In the Orthodox tradition Sophia is honoured together with her daughters, Faith, Hope and Love, and her name is often borne by small village shrines.
The place stands in the western part of the group, paired with the prayer place of Saint Panteleimon: only ninety metres lie between them. Further round are Saint Charalampos at two hundred and ten metres and the Dormition church.
Such pairs are not rare in the villages of the upland: shrines are set close together, yet each keeps its own dedication. The prayer places keep no order and can be approached at any time; keep to the usual restraint.
