A church of the Transfiguration, Greek Orthodox by rite. In the Georgian calendar the feast is called Piristsvaleba and is kept in mid August: on that day the first harvest is blessed in village churches.
The village should not be mistaken here. There is a Kokhta in Kakheti, near Telavi, and this one by Tsalka: different places at opposite ends of the country. Our Kokhta lies five kilometres east of Tsalka, and three kilometres from it stands the new church of Dashbashi.
Kokhta and Dashbashi are conveniently seen together, a few minutes' drive apart. The usual rules apply: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, and a headscarf is useful for women.
