The chapel of Saint Catherine stands in the northern part of Avranlo at the foot of a cliff, south of the Transfiguration church. It is the only old one among the Avranlo chapels: sources assign it to the late Middle Ages, while nearly all the others were built in the late twentieth century.
The building is hall like and laid of worked stone blocks, which also sets it apart from the neighbouring chapels with their rough stone. A deep semicircular apse closes the space on the east, the entrance is made on the south, and arched windows are cut in the east, south and west facades.
A fragment of a stele bearing a cross and a stone cross are kept in the sanctuary. Stones like these are usually older than the building itself and come down from an earlier church that stood on the same spot.
