The church in Sioni has fallen in: the roof is gone, the walls stand in part, and no services have been held here for a long time. Its dedication has not survived, while the name of the village itself, Sioni, echoes the old habit of giving that name to cathedral churches.
The place lies east of Bolnisi and has close company: two hundred and sixty metres from here to the church in Akhkula, about a kilometre to the Mother of God church of the same Sioni. The three churches make up a short walk.
Going inside the fallen walls is a bad idea. The place is open, people come freely, and the stones are better left alone.
