The community bears the name of Queen Ketevan, a ruler of Kakheti who met a martyr death for her faith and is venerated as a saint in the Georgian church. The community is a convent and a living one.
It stands by the highway east of Bolnisi, near Tamarisi, away from the inhabited villages. The place is open, with fields around, and the nearest village shrines, the churches of Tamarisi, are about three kilometres off.
Monastic rules apply: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, and no photography inside without asking. A visit by a group is best arranged in advance, as the community lives by its own rule.
