The upper church of Tsurtavi stands higher up the slope than the other buildings of the district, hence its byname. That is how local people tell the three Tsurtavi churches apart: the upper one, the small one and the one on the edge of Kolagiri.
It is six hundred metres from here to the small church, about half a kilometre to the community and nearly a kilometre to the Nakhiduri church. This is the northernmost church of the local cluster, and it is a good place to start the round and work downhill.
There are no regular services and people come freely. The climb here is gentle, but after rain the dirt road turns soft and walking is better.
