The community near Kolagiri bears the name of Tsurtavi, the historical name of this district known from old Georgian texts. It is called both a convent and simply the church of St George, and both names are current here.
The place stands at the very heart of a dense cluster: six hundred and seventy metres from here to the Nakhiduri church, five hundred and fifty to the village mosque, a little over two hundred to the small church of Tsurtavi. Seven holy places stand within a kilometre in all.
The community is a living one and monastic rules apply: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, and no photography without asking. A visit by a group is best arranged in advance.
