Khujabi Monastery, also known as Khuchap (Armenian: Խուճապ, Georgian: ხუჯაბი), stands right on the border between Georgia and Armenia, among the churches, cathedrals and monasteries of Kvemo Kartli. Georgian sources place it in Marneuli Municipality, near the village of Akhkerpi; mapping data ties its coordinates to the village of Privolnoye in Armenia's Lori Province. The exact border line here has not been finally demarcated, so the monastery's location is described differently depending on the source.
The monastery church is dedicated to Our Lady of Iviron and dates to the 13th century, making it one of the oldest monastic complexes in the region. The earliest written mention appears in Georgian chronicles from 1721. The cross-shaped domed church stands on an artificial platform; alongside the main building survives a gavit (a porch typical of Armenian church architecture) and several structures now in ruins, reflecting the mixed cultural heritage of this border area.
The site is remote and rarely visited, which gives it a distinctive atmosphere, but reaching it requires serious preparation: according to visitor reviews, a permit from the Armenian border service must be arranged in advance, a process that can take 15-20 days. Without a permit, access to the monastery isn't possible.
