The church of the Virgin Mary stands by the road in Tkhinvala village in Tetritskaro Municipality, in the Manglisi area. The hall of about eleven metres by seven is laid of roughly worked basalt ashlars of varying size. Sources assign the building to the 8th and 9th centuries.
The horizontal line of the masonry is mostly held, but it is broken in the middle of the south wall, which looks like the mark of a later repair. One cornice stone survives at the northwestern corner, also roughly worked, of Algeti basalt.
The entrance is on the south, dressed with an architrave outside and a hemispherical arch within. There were two windows, east and west: the east one has collapsed entirely, while the west was cut fairly high and came out wide and straight. A slightly horseshoe shaped apse is separated from the hall by a side wall and raised by a step, with large arched niches on either side of its window.
