The church is dedicated to the Exaltation of the Cross. The feast recalls the finding of the Cross in Jerusalem and is kept in autumn in the Georgian tradition; the dedication should not be mixed up with the Ascension, these being different events on different days.
Ghoubani lies south-east of Tbilisi, in Gardabani Municipality, on the plain at the very edge of the capital district. This is another shrine of the village: the first was its hall church.
There are no regular services here, and visits are arranged with local people. The parish is alive, and on the patronal feast the village gets busy.
