The Mariamoba church in Borbalo. Mariamoba is the Georgian name of the Marian feast of the Dormition, kept at the end of August; churches named directly after a feast rather than after a saint are not rare in Georgia.
Borbalo stands at the eastern edge of the region, closer to the surroundings of Tbilisi than to those of Tsalka. The nearest neighbouring shrine, the village church in Asureti, lies about five and a half kilometres away, and further the church of David Garejeli in Tsalaskuri.
Borbalo and Asureti are conveniently seen one after the other, both fitting into a single trip from the city. The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, and a headscarf is useful for women.
