The mosque carries the name of Imam Husayn and stands in Arjevan Sarvani. Husayn, the grandson of the Prophet, is especially venerated in the Shia tradition to which most Muslims of Kvemo Kartli belong.
A Saint George naeklesiari and church ruins are marked in the same village, so Christian and Muslim sites stand three hundred metres apart here. Such proximity is ordinary for the mixed villages of Kvemo Kartli. The village lies in the hilly part of Tetritskaro Municipality.
Shoes are removed at the entrance, which is worth knowing in advance. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
Tips
- Combine the visit with neighbouring villages to save time.
- Bring a torch if it is dark inside.
- Bring socks, as shoes are left at the entrance.
Getting there
- Ask locals for directions, since the short way is not always obvious.
- The last stretch runs along a dirt road that softens after rain.
