The site is known as the sakdari of the Most Holy Virgin, and at the same time it is called a chapel: on the ground the difference between a small village church and a chapel is often a matter of convention, and both words fit here. The scale is worth picturing in advance; this is a modest building.
Melaani lies on the plain south-east of Gurjaani, among vineyards. The village holds several sanctuaries of different character: besides this one there is a chapel of Saint George, a church of Saint George and the ruins of a church of Saint Marina on the outskirts.
No regular services are held here and the site can be approached at any time; if the building is locked the view from outside loses little. The village is flat, the roads are simple, and all the churches can be walked in an unhurried hour. Behave as you would in a church: quietly and with care.
