The church is dedicated to Saint George, and Melaani holds two such dedications: besides this church the village also has a chapel of the same name. These are different buildings in different parts of the village, and the easiest way to tell them apart is by location.
The church stands in the southern part of Melaani, among the vineyards of the plain south-east of Gurjaani. About a kilometre away is a Virgin Mary sakdari, and on the outskirts the ruins of a church of Saint Marina. Melaani holds four churches in all, each of a different character.
There is no fixed schedule of services, but the site can be approached at any time. The village is flat, the roads are simple, and the four churches can be walked in an unhurried hour. The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet inside and in the yard.
